Peruvian Amazon rainforest road trip 4 days / 3 nights

A new way to enjoy an ecotourism trip in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest. This tour perfectly balances wildlife observation and adventure activities, combining treks, visits to the Chuncho Claylick (the largest macaw clay lick on earth), kayaking, zip lining and many other different activities surrounded by breathtaking scenarios.

Day 1

Arrival and transfer

You will be received at the airport by a member of our staff and then transferred from the airport to our headquarters in Puerto Maldonado.

Welcome briefing

After a greeting with local and exotic drinks, the guide will explain the activities and give some general information.

Off road trip

A 4x4 vehicle will take us through the Inter Oceanic highway, where we will see small villages and farms with livestock of tropical breeds. Afterwards, we will take a detour and start our immersion to the wild through the rainforest routes headed to Venado Station.

Venado Station.

We get down from our vehicles at Venado Sation, a research center located upon a beautiful lake surrounded by wildlife. You can visit the organic farm that provides food to the lodge and have a swim at the lake.

Venado-Wasai trail

The forests between Venado Station and Wasai Tambopata lodge will be the first immersion into the deep rainforest. Plenty of animals inhabit these areas, enhancing the possibility to have an encounter.

Night walk.

At night is when most of mammals of the rainforest are active, but its harder to see them. Frogs and insects of strange shapes and colors are very common however.

Day 2

Macaw claylick

Early wake up (4:00 am) and upstream boat ride to the Chuncho Macaw Claylick , where hundreds of parrots and macaws descend to feed on the walls. One of the biggests spectacles of the amazon rainforest. This is inside the National Park, where chances to spot wildlife are the best.

Kayak (optional)

Take one of the many kayaks that are available at the docks; the waters of the Tambopata River are yours to paddle through.

Ethnobotanical Walk

An informative trek around the lodge area to learn about plants, their different uses (medicinal, cosmetic, in crafts, etc) and to observe the amazing jungle ecosystem and its adaptations to an always competitive environment.

Cayman Search

At nightfall, you will embark one of the boats and start a slow ride looking for red spots on the water and river banks. These are the reflections of cayman eyes at night, and if you are stealthy enough, you may approach them to a touchable distance.

Day 3

Kayak Adventure

Short boat trip upstream until the Gold Island. This is the starting point for the kayak adventure. As you go downstream the Tambopata river you’ll be able to enjoy the views and maybe spot a rare animal along the river banks. The motorized boat will be escorting you for safety.

Adventure circuit

Zip lines, hanging bridges and rope triline are the main attractions for this part of the day, which combined with astonishing landscapes, create a perfect match. Those seeking adrenaline and intense experiences will relish with these attractions.

Optional cayman search/night walk/ Cocktail night

Repeat one the previous activities or just relax at the lodge common areas and enjoy some tropical cocktails at the bar. First round is on the house!
